Elane, and Denrim looks very nervous around the general. Currently we can’t tell if the general is a reader or not, because we can’t see the right side of his face for the reader’s mark. I’m guessing that he is a reader as Elane wanted Ember to keep suppressing her demon presence, and it wouldn’t be necessary to do that if he wasn’t one. That or he has a reader with him at all times. Then again Denrim has his mark on his face plate, and the general’s face plate doesn’t have one as we can see his right side of his face plate.
He really doesn’t seem to like to mince his words calling Denrim Elane’s plaything, and pointing out Elane’s magic and tattoo. Then again he seems to be swamped with paper work, and now he just have another headache to deal with. That or he is sick and tired of putting up with Denrim and Elane.
Denrim and Elane might have an idea on what to say to try and get out of this, but let’s not forget the other guards with them. Ken, the female guard that was with Elane and Ember earlier, and the one with the spear. If the general starts questioning them, things might get messy. Unless they were told to wait outside the general’s room letting Elane, and Denrim handle everything.
Also a smuggling problem? Sounds like an adventure. An excuse Denrim can say is he was going to use Ember to get to the bottom of the smuggling problem. That he was publicly being nasty to Ember so no one will assume she is associated with the guard, and she can go undercover to find their operations. Making this whole predicament a misunderstanding. I am assuming someone reported Denrim attacking a blue fur reader earlier, and if not word definitely got around by now.

But you surly can’t deny Ember looks good with the Robe.
