Why does Ember seem so unease with Lupa? Yes Flint left a terrible impression, but Lupa has done no such thing. She isn’t a stranger to Ember. Perhaps she never saw Lupa more aggressive side before? Though I still believe she could have done much, much worse, but chose not to. I wonder is Ember a bit distrustful because she believes that Lupa is going to make her or try to have her give up on her dream of travelling and living in the Tennin lands.
Callum seems extremely calm about Lupa. Perhaps he was able to piece the parts together and didn’t want to pick a fight? Of course, Lupa is probably a large step up compared to Veera so not picking a fight with her is probably the smarter choice. He does seem to be very forgiving to them even after she chucked Gen to Risaac. How often do Demons get escorted out of a town peacefully? I assume many will react like Jenna would and attack first and ask questions later.
I think Ember is so ill at ease with Lupa because Lupa is a demon. She’s probably worried that Lupa will somehow attempt to encourage her into giving in to her demon side, or some other action that wouldn’t be in her best interest in this regard.
It’s interesting how they tolerate Lupa’s presence/behaviour here. It seems clear that they’ve never had to deal with powerful demon ferals outside of an attack, if at all. It could be they feel they are outclassed.
Demons are the enemy, but it’s all ‘they may have brought a demon with them, but no biggie, don’t do it again’ that’s a major transgression they’re just shrugging off right there. You would expect it to be ‘don’t come back’.
Curiously, it seems to be expected that non-demon ferals and demon ferals freely associate, yet ferals are still allowed to come and go as they please. More than that, they’re “welcome”, despite tensions. It’s been implied that they do trade with ferals, but we don’t really know a lot about the extent of their relationship with ferals, how this compares to their relationship with other cities, or anything about feral society. Really looking forward to learning more about feral society and culture!
This reminds a little me of Veera’s interaction with Sil, which started with posturing but quickly went south. Which does reflect interactions between predators in real life, where you don’t want to expend energy or risk injury unless it’s necessary.
But it seems like interactions between powerful Demons and Tennin are less common than we might think…
Strange that they’d be ok with ember going to the border with a powerful Demon for chitty-chats, this would put her in a position of vulnerability, and they don’t know Lupa. Maybe they’re trusting Ember’s history with her? It has been a weird afternoon or morning for them.
Nevertheless, I am anticipating consequences…
What side is Lupa on
P.s I can just feel the space between the Character, I wish I could War drowe well.
Hello, Ariah, we see you!
I can’t help but feel excited and happy that cooler heads prevailed, here. 🙂
Still don’t know Lupa’s ultimate intentions. :/
