Considering what the story seems to be hinting at here, I’m not liking Ramiel’s odds here.
It seems like this chapter is really nailing home the point of what some of the characters have tried to warn about the Tennin and their Readers. They invaded two settlements without being challenged up to this point and taken out a good number of the people behind the walls.
Though considering Ember incounters with Risaac, Maybe this is to be expected. It certainly would drive home the point of how overreliant the Tennin have become with their Readers. Ramiel backstabbed “Darksouls style” in an ally chasing possible shadows. It may even be Veera’s father he’s mistaking as Veera.
That probably not Veera, I would assume Ramiel similar to a reader can detect those around. So I assume they also were able to set decoys to slow him down even more. We’ll see if Ramiel can take on one of those monsters Ember is dealing with, but this one is armored.
Though I wonder why can’t he feel the creature right behind him? Is it because this place is overrun with demons its energy just blends in? Perhaps as it is more of an artificial creation it doesn’t give anything off? Or maybe as it was created using Tennin flesh it gives off a Tennin aura – a bit of a dark theory but maybe.
Ramiel chooses the bold or reckless gambit of going straight for the enemy commander instead of holding the line with his garrison. Perhaps he considered the risk of losing Bernin, and his opportunity to strike directly at Kence’s base with his and Vivian’s help, too great to play it safe.

He abandoned his garrison
