Bloodline 216
Echo dwells on the past. That’s allllmost a pun.
Lupa and her pack used to visit the Memeelis family a lot more often, but that changed with time.
If you like Bloodline, remember to vote for it regularly on Top Webcomics (You can vote once per day), it’s one of the best ways you can support the comic! I’m aiming to start drawing more side stuff, so I’ll have something to post as incentives. [Link]

You love her, yeah, yeah, yeah…
I would worry about romance at this point. As he says, he doesn’t really know her anymore. If he is having intense feelings then it isn’t based upon any direct evidence of her self. At best it is an idealised version of Ember, but it is quite likely an ideal itself, like freedom or the past, which Ember’s identity is being used to fill in the blanks and make a facsimile of a person.
It seems more likely that it is nothing romantic though. Far more likely it is nerves. He knows that people get turned into demons in these woods and that he is a prime candidate, and doesn’t seem enthusiastic about the prospect. He also lost people he knew. He is also likely feeling pressure to decide what to do with his future. Ember was always the one with ambitions. She wanted to escape from Flint, she wanted to track down magic, she wanted to keep records for the future… it is quite natural that he would dwell upon her memory during such a time.
Or it could be magic shenanigans. Maybe they are a fated romance or something…
Brace yourself, next page is a musical number!
….seriously?
Trolling the readers, eh?
Lupa’s pack lives in a cave? I would’ve assumed they lived in a house similar to Flint’s family. I wonder has Flint ever brought Cole, Ember, and Bernin over to visit Lupa before? Also does Lupa herself have some sacrificial alter somewhere in the back to the cave? The writing on the wall also kind of looks like Runic, and Runic is I assume the native language of Ferals. So would that make Lupa’s pack more closer to Ferals?
So Flint’s family has some similarity to Tennin, and Lupa’s pack maybe closer to Ferals. Does this mean Lupa’s pack searches for Ferals that aren’t demons to sacrifice as oppose to Flint wanting Tennins to sacrifice?
Echo obviously still has feelings for Ember, and he is trying to convince himself that Ember is perfectly fine. Something tells me that if Echo decides to ask Flint/Cole what do they think of Ember’s situation in hopes to put his mind at ease it probably won’t turn out they way he wants. That or someone from Veera’s clan might stop by possibly letting Echo know about their intentions for Bernin and Ember which may become Echo’s call to action.
Also now that I think about it what is Lupa planning? Flint had to “rush” the awakening for Cole, Bernin, and Ember. I assume Lupa must have a similar plan for Echo, Loki, Keine, and Ariah. However, they don’t seem to be planning to leave on their own so Lupa can still take things slow.
Remember how Ember has those voices in her head after the blood awakening, I believe that the symbols that you believe is writing on the wall is actually an inner voice talking to him in a foreign language that we don’t understand.
Also, I believe that Lupa is actually trying to protect them from turning then into demons. That or like you said, she is taking it slow.
I suspect that Lupa’s pack is semi-nomadic. They likely have several “homes” that they travel between and probably spend a decent amount of time improvising camps. Also of note is the diversity of Lupa’s “pack”. It is likely that Lupa and Flint had some sort of incompatibility in their methods, and agreed that Flint would take his own children and Lupa would take all of the town’s orphans…
I personally think that Flint’s disagreement with Lupa over the raising of the pups had something to do with the fact that he is more of a demon than she is. As in “You became a SHADE?! WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!!!”
Yes, Lupa’s pack is very diverse. The question is do they all have some demon presence deep down hidden away? Though I wonder how does nature magic work with demonic powers? As Ariah seems to have an affinity to nature like Sil. At least I think it’s nature.
This does make me wonder do Demons have proper healers on their end? I don’t think Tennins/Ferals(non demon) dives into death magic so at most the only threat of death magic would be rival bloodlines/groups attacking each other. Through there might be some friction between Veera’s bloodline and Flint’s since Veera’s bloodline are kind of challenging Flint’s.
It would be very interesting if perhaps one or more members of Lupa’s pack have no demon heritage, but then again if they didn’t have any demon heritage chances are they would be targeted as potential sacrifices from other groups.
“she’s… matured”
Okay Echo, don’t tell me you were checking out a 16 year old.
i think he was thinking in terms of, she isn’t as naive to the troubles of the world anymore. But perhaps he was thinking in both terms.
Is it just me or does Echo have some sort of invisible crown-mask on his face? It just… looks awfully strange. It makes my eyes involuntarily squint. The lighter spot on his forehead and lighter diamond near his wrists are pretty peculiar too.
