Bloodline 215
Nominations for the Ursa Major Awards end on February 15th, be sure to get your votes in before then! [Link]
I don’t want to stay on the UMA subject with all this comic stuff going on, so this will be my last mention of the nominations for a while.
And at last, this mysterious Ember scene is brought to light! It’s certainly been a while, hasn’t it?
…. she talking to Echo?! Not what I was expecting. Or is he dreaming? Now I need to see next week’s page…but the wait….AAARRRRGGGHH!
Wait… who’s Echo?… Oh he’s one of Lupa’s pack!
I am confuzzled. How did Ember talk to Echo? They’re probably like miles apart. I didn’t think Ember and Echo had a comnection other than starting with the same letter.
Echo is weird? I recall that due to his race he should be an especially good candidate for becoming a demon. But he doesn’t have red eyes, so I guess Lupa is still not doing that, for whatever reason…
Now this was not what I expected… Been a while since we’ve seen Echo so… Now that I’ve inspected the pages a bit I believe that Ember is talking telepathically to Echo but Echo created an Illusion through blood magic… or I’m overthinking this.
Forgot to add on that he made the illusion to allow him to see her, which explains how Ember seems to disappear into glowing dust.
This isn’t a glowing dust, this is a transition from hotel wall to a night sky. Meaning he’s somewhere else.
Now that you said that I can see the transition. This means that she has learned how to use telepathy.
I think that he is just dreaming about her, not communicating with her.
Oh hey, I actually caught up. Just blew through the entire comic in a few hours. Looking forward to more!
Glad you’re enjoying it!
Huh odd If anyone would have a link with Ember I would’ve assume Flint, Bernin, or Cole. Ember herself is unable to cast any magic so I doubt she is sending any messages over to Echo via sending spells.
Still the fact that we don’t see Ember’s eyes makes me think is it The Voice in her that is doing this? The only reason I can see Ember trying to contact Echo is because he seems to know what is going on in Briarwood and what had happen in the past. Echo is perhaps the only one outside of her family (not counting Flint) she trusted the most.
As Viscaria mention it could just be thoughts from Echo wondering what Ember may be doing out in the world. Considering Ember does’t have the ability to contact someone far away, or any kind of special link to Echo. It would be nice to see what has happen to everyone else in Brairwood, especially Cole.
Did Cole embrace the demonic ways or fled in a later date since he still seemed to have wanted to leave even after The Voice in him was awaken. Perhaps Cole, and Echo decided to pair up and leave? Echo himself did show some desire to leave, but wasn’t sure he would be able to escape from Lupa.
Oh, on discord, w0lfmare just confirmed that this is in fact a dream sequence in Echo’s mind. Ember isn’t really involved in this at all.
and now I think that he would rather be dreaming about her than waking up.
Ah so it is a dream. Of course now what does this mean for Echo? He seemed to show concern for Ember’s safety. Strange that he would be dreaming about Ember, seeming to be kind of a damsel in distress, or at least lost without him.
If Echo is really concern for Ember and wants to go after Ember he could go behind Lupa’s back and request to Flint that he can go after Ember and “bring her back.” Heck if Flint doesn’t really care about Ember anymore he can say he would go after Bernin, but actually search for Ember.
Of course since we are back in Brairwood I hope we get to see what has happen to Cole, and what Flint has been up to. Since Veera’s clan/bloodline believes Flint’s power/bloodline has been waning where does Lupa stand in this? The fact that Flint’s power is being questioned and that they had to go after Bernin may mean either Cole struck out on his own or is resisting The Voice in him in defiance, and Flint currently can’t just kill him off like he was going to do with Ember since currently Cole is all he has left.
I don’t really think or at least hope Cole didn’t fully embrace The Voice seeing that other clans is starting to see Flint’s bloodline as weak.
The problem is, we saw Cole had been taken over by the voice inside of him already before Bernin or Ember was even awake and he was wearing one of the gauntlets that awakens the demons inside of them so he was already doing what Flint wanted. I do question one page after the “3 years later page that could explain what Cole has been doing, mostly to himself, as I believe you’re right about him leaving but I believe that he was fully taken over and is now doing stuff to himself to make him stronger with the dark magic.
You kind of have to feel sorry for Cole when the initial plan fell apart the “new” plan was if Ember was forced in the same condition Cole was then Bernin can’t kick Cole out of the group. However, that action only pretty much convinced Bernin that Cole had been fully turned or will turn on him so he wanted nothing to do with Cole. In which most likely The Voice inside Cole probably whispered if you awaken The Voice in Bernin then he will have no choice but to leave with him, and Ember.
I am hoping that Cole would be in the same situation as Ember. Away from Flint, and trying to resist the whispers of the Voice. I’m kind of hope right now Echo, and Cole both left their home together perhaps under the guise that they are searching for Ember/Bernin. However I don’t think Flint would let Cole his last remaining child out of his sight unless he is sure Cole will not turn his back to him.
wait wasnt cole scratched with the claw? or am i thinking of echo i dont think i remember echo.
Yes, Cole was scratched with Flint’s claw. Echo is part of Lupa’s pack, however he seemed to act more like an older brother to Ember and Bernin. He sticks up for Ember, and tries to make Flint understand in 21 – 22, and gives Bernin some last minute sparring before they leave in 32 – 38. In fact Echo is the only one Ember trusted in telling that they were leaving Flint’s side.
I just realized something. Do you remember in the first chapter, Ember would ask Echo about what happened to the town and he wouldn’t answer? What if this is just Echo’s refusal to answer coming back to haunt him.
I also realized that both Ember and Echo are residues. Embers are left behind by fires, and echoes left behind by voices. I bet both these characters have something in the past they’ve lost. Ember lost her non-demonhood, and Echo presumably his family, but probably something much more esoteric or inherent is lost. The main difference would be that embers can’t simply turn back to whatever it was, while echoes doesn’t really change; it stays the same, a voice or sound, only fading and growing unintelligible.
