I can imagine the more successful demon recruitment is to wait for a target to be ostracized first. That way they are more pliant to ‘we accept you’ mentality.
I agree and that is probably what Lupa is hoping for. As Ember is already raising red flags it’s only a matter of time for that to happen. Either being pursued by a patrol or chased out of town I’m surprised this has yet happen to Ember.
Lupa may not be too far off as Elane plans to keep Ember in Tenguard even though she herself told her to leave which is a bit contradictory. The fact that Elane wants to keep Ember around because she thinks Ember knows something or is something special may be the catalyst in pushing Ember away from Tennin society.
Right now it will depend on what Elane plans to do with Ember, and how much influence she has in Tenguard. If Elane treats Ember very well and gives her a “haven” then the Salavere family will be forced to make a move.
Echo does have a point that it has been three years for Ember, and the Salavere’s patience might be waning as they have confronted Bernin. It might only be time before they send someone to confront Ember soon since they may have tried the wait and see approach for three years with no progress.
But what would happen if Ember has no desire to go back and is ostracized by the Tennin? Perhaps she might leave for somewhere far away like the Sai-Vayan desert?
Ahrem recommended her to go to Tith and find Lawrie. He specifically gave her that Reader face-paint so people in Tith won’t kill her on sight. But he also said to solve her demon problem first before going there… I’m confused.
I can see Elane possibly making a false promise of a cure so she and maybe others can study her. Elane still sees Ember as a threat, and she needs a plan in keeping Ember in Tenguard without making her feel like a prisoner. When you back someone in a corner they can become very dangerous, and I feel Ember is no exception. So keeping her in Tenguard to “find a cure” would sit better than “because you are a unknown demon and we need to study you.”
Wait a minute, Ember wants to “solve” her problem with magic, but she can’t cast useful magic herself yet. Considering most mages specialize in one Element, looks like she need to begin forming a party of mages.
The way Lupa says the last sentence in this page is very interesting. It’s like she has been in Ember’s position before and something bad had occurred to her to result in what she is now.
It’s just that Lupa has noticeable claws while Ember and Echo do not. I don’t know if that’s because she grew them out, or because it’s her demon side showing.

Awesome perspective shots of Echo! You’re really improving 🙂
Thanks!

Is Echo missing his claws?
