Thanks :D, I was was waiting yesterday and when it didn’t update I kinda figured something came up, but thanks for the WIP page, keep up the good work. 😀
I think she basically shoved the curse into a magic book, and the book’s magic was more stable, so the curse just unravelled in a toxic(to it) environment. Still, it is difficult to be certain with the page not yet finished. And here I was hoping that she would use her nascent Death-god powers to burn the spell.
Honestly! Her hand was right there in the “make a tiny flame that eats far too much magic for its effect(so clearly something unpleasant is happening to all the magic I sent there)” pose and she didn’t even try it. She didn’t even try eating it. What sort of person manifests a curse and doesn’t try eating it? Oh well, there will be other chances to stick raw magic into her weird fire.
I think it is more like she changed herself with an simple enchantment so the curse wont work anymore.
The curse got casted sloppy like:
Harm blue girl
But now she changed herself into:
Blue girl with enchantment
I think this was enough to render the curse powerless on her
Ah! It is much more clear with the page actually finished. I can properly see the spell going squish now!
So, not only did the book save her, but it is one of few here that are enchanted. Further investigation required?
…
Ember was cursed. Ember sought out help from a nearby book. A book took in the curse, which was thus smashed apart upon a durability enchantment. Ember then took the book into her hands and examined its every detail. Reading its every line and pawing over its every feature until she knew it as absolutely as a book might be known.
Word replacement!
The Princess was cursed. The Princess called for help from a passing knight. The Knight took in the curse, which was thus smashed upon enchanted armour.
So did the magic get stored in the book or once it went to the book the energy just dispersed? I’m kind of am leaning towards the latter. Now with her curse problem solved what is going to be Ember’s next move? Staying and learning different cantrips would be beneficial, but she Denrim, and Elane are after her so staying may not be a good option. However even if Ember wants to leave Tenguard, Denrim’s team has her backpack which I would assume has all her travelling supplies, books she borrowed from the library, research notes, etc. She is going to have to find a way to get it back.
Ember better start getting as much practice in with her cantrips, but even then I would assume Denrim is an experienced spellcaster since compared to Sil he doesn’t need to make an incantations so countering what he is casting on the fly might be too much for Ember. Studying magic maybe helpful, but at most I would assume you would be working primarily with theory crafting. Such as If a someone cast “x” counter with “y”, but that may not consider the experience, raw power, or other outside variables you just can learn from books.
So Ember may not be as defenseless magic wise anymore, but she shouldn’t expect to come out on top if she goes up against Denrim in a sort of wizard’s duel. She will still have to rely on her wits for the most part.
I really can’t see Ember harming a book. Well, not intentionally, she might use one as an umbrella if she were desperate. I would guess that a weakness curse just wouldn’t interact with a book at all and that it’s enchantment was too stable to be at risk. Failure would have just been nothing happening, or perhaps the curse mutating.

Durability spell? So she kind of… shielded the curse like a small container inside her? That works.

Is it just me, or is her hair getting messier right now?
owo, yay full page, thanks W0lfmare!!
Good thing her plan worked, or she might have been kicked out of the library for damaging a book.
