Bloodline 248
Maybe you shouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth Ember.
On the other hand, what if the gift horse is hiding an ulterior motive in there, or has teeth so bad that it’s no gift at all?
Maybe I should give up on analogies.

Elane is the most trustworthy! Ember is just tail-jealous.
Elane will be able to figure it out! (probably hopefully) Good luck!
I would trust Elane with my well-being about as much as I trust the doctor from RvB season 12 or so (the one with purple armor…the crazy one)
Purple trimmed* (not to be confused with doc)
I’m with Ember, this sudden about face is fishy. It’s only been one day and Elane who heavily insisted Ember to leave Tenguard immediately suddenly want’s her to stay? It’s kind of obvious Elane must want something to have this sudden change of opinion. Also another red flag is if Elane originally told Ember to leave because she is dangerous why in the world would she offer to help a demon control their magic?
To be honest it is best for Ember to be very cautious, and very aware of those around her. She has lived in Tennin lands for three years and in places where readers may be wandering around. Even if she has to accept Elane’s offer I won’t be surprised if Ember starts to plan an exit strategy behind Elane’s back.
Also when Elane says: “By all accounts you should be a powerful mage” loops back to my previous question how did Creed (the librarian) deduced that Ember cannot cast any spells in the first place? Is Ember giving off a weird magic aura that Creed himself was able to detect? Kind of like how Ember was able to get a gauge of Ahrem’s magic power, but then again Creed isn’t a reader I think, and Elane wasn’t able to figure that out herself.
Just to clear something up, I meant to imply that Ember had mentioned it to Creed, hence why Ember accepted Elane’s reason.
Ah ok, thanks for the clarification.
Yeah…I wouldn’t trust her at this point.
it would be super suspenseful (if you don’t have any plans) if Ember and Burnin were super close to finding each other (like mere meters away) and they don’t see each other.
Also, I like what you did with the characters’ names! They all relate to fire! Don’t know if that was intentional, but if it was, it was genius!
Thanks!
Elane also told Ember that she thinks she’s cute. Elane’s feeling conflicted. She wanted to send Ember away for her own good, but she also wants Ember for herself.
Awesome vote incentive pic of the Arctos queen, by the way.
Thanks!
The reason you don’t look a gift horse in the mouth is that looking a horse in the mouth is so you can check the condition of the teeth. By checking you are showing that you are evaluating the quality of the gift, which is insulting/lacking gratitude.
If you know your horses you can tell quite a bit about the care and diet of a horse from it’s teeth.
What if the horse is large, wooden, and sometimes, when you are standing next to it, you can almost hear those Greeks who were besieging your city just the other day… I wonder what the most famous gift-horse of all is…
Or more practically, if the gift-horse was sourced from a rival table, you might want to quarantine it for a few weeks before introducing it to your own herd…
Between bombs and anonymous royal nigerian fortunes and and anthrax and “We’ll just send some of our nice young soldier over to get rid of that nasty tyrant you’ve got there and have some of this lovely almost-democratic Democracy!” the bar for gift-trusting can’t be too low, and with the natural tendency to jump of free stuff without thinking… if my relationship is good enough that I would expect any trust, I would be glad to see them being cautious.
