Ember’s on the ropes again! Maybe she should have been more literal about that biting comment from the previous page.

oWo, oh dearie me Ember isnt doing so hot…and i just made a pun…great
love the expression in panel 5 – it just says “seriously” to me
Seems like she used “Repel” just a little too soon.
I guess Ember was trying to disrupt the spell Denrim had in his hand? I’m sure this played out better in Embers head. I wonder what this curse is going to do? It is going to be very hard to perform counter spells with a just basic spells, while Denrim probably has access to many more advance ones.
I’ve been thinking a bit about Denrim. Despite all of his negative qualities, and distrust between him and the civilians the Tennin higher ups don’t just send him out as a patrol like they would do with other troublesome Tennin like Gale. I’m thinking Denrim is not a normal reader guard, but more in the lines of an interrogator, or torturer. He seems to specialize in curses as he just made one up right here and now, carries a healing knife, and the fact that he sees demons as animals seems to fit the mold of an interrogator/torture well. The curses Denrim creates I assume to be either painful, or to weaken their target, but never to kill them.
You know it would be very ironic if one of Denrim’s curses inadvertently helps Ember. I would assume demons are very use to the Voice inside them, and giving the voice in them control as the Voice in Ember wanted when Flint awakened her Demon blood. Perhaps a curse to cut them off from the Voice making the demon unable to rely on the Voice to guide them; with the intention of causing the demon to feel weak, abandoned, and cut-off from The Voice.
That would be useful, but we better prepare for a visit by the voice if otherwise.
