I wouldn’t call it a handout, but more on the lines it’s her own fault for placing the Tennin up high in a pedestal that once she met Denrim it completely shattered her perfect image of what a Tennin is. Of course, Denrim does deserve a scolding from Ember after what he put her through.
In a way both of them are similar. Denrim a Tennin that is ruthless, and discriminatory, and Ember a demon that wants to live in peace and harmony. Both are going against the grain of what the general populace sees of them.
Also Denrim in the third panel really gives off a “I’m now going to give an evil monologue” pose.
Ember really has a romanticize idea of the Tennin. I’m wondering in that three year time skip has Ember met any Tennins like Denrim? Though being in hiding, and consistently moving maybe she was able to avoid most contact with Tennins. Denrim is sort of necessary for Ember actually. I don’t mean Ember should be thanking Denrim, but more on the lines it’s better for her to learn not all Tennin are paragons of justice and law.
I can really see that demon manipulating Denrim into getting into conflict with Ember. He really seems to bend over backwards for Elane, and I’m sure that demon can exploit that easily. Denrim seems to be blinded by both love and superiority. Though his disgust for the Quelladar, and any non-Tennin probably does help him get certain jobs done better as he may go much farther in investigating issues involving them.
I kind of feel like this would be a good time for Ken to interject as Denrim threw him under the bus because of Elane. It must be frustrating at times to be working with Denrim as Elane seems to have him wrapped around her finger. Getting thrown under the bus is bad, but this was in front of the general. The last thing he would need is someone pretty much right at the top questioning his competency in performing his duties which may have some serious consequences in the future.
Hit that man hard Ember, he deserves it.
Seconded!
Oof. Want a handout much there main character? :-/

Ember has had enough of Denrim’s crap.
